Cross Bar Ranch Wellfield for Tampa Bay Water
Client: Tampa Bay Water
Location: Pinellas County, Florida
Summary:
Cardno ENTRIX designed and implemented the ecological monitoring program for the wellfield. Baseline monitoring began prior to initiation of water production and continued for 17 years. Services have included quantitative and qualitative monitoring of vegetative changes, assessment of wetland condition, statistical analyses, expert witness testimony, aerial photographic interpretation, and analysis of water levels in nearby water bodies to determine potential wellfield effects during drought periods. Monitoring and analytical services for this wellfield have contributed substantially to the current body of knowledge on ecological influences of wellfields, alternative monitoring techniques, and statistical analyses. False color infrared photography of this regional wellfield and the surrounding area was assessed yearly to determine land use changes, wetland conditions, and water levels. Potential effects of water withdrawals, if any, and their regional extent were analyzed.
Cardno ENTRIX has also assisted our clients in developing a total ecosystem management plan for Cross Bar Ranch and Al Bar Ranch. The management plan, including a detailed assessment of wetland condition on these Pinellas County properties, development of management recommendations for augmented wetlands, and development of the management plan, have been used to support renewal of the Water Use Permit for Cross Bar Ranch.
