Suwannee River Water Management District Surface Water Monitoring Program

Client: Suwannee River Water Management District (SRWMD)

Location: Northern Counties, Florida

Summary: The Suwannee surface water monitoring project is an ongoing study with the SRWMD as part of the ambient water monitoring network. This plan was initiated in 1989 in response to the Surface water Improvement Management Program of 1987 and incorporates a variety of data: water chemistry sampling, flow measurements, aquatic biology sampling, and taxonomic analysis. A variety of community-level statistics are used to monitor trends in fuanal diversity and health. The goal of the project is to provide a broad spectrum of data from among 76 stations (streams, lakes, springs, and estuaries), each sampled on a regular frequency over a long period of time. This information is then used to interpret long-term trends in water quality and the effects of land use practices within SRWMD boundaries.
