Sonoma Development Center, Emergency Water Diversion Repair Project
Client: Sonoma Development Center
Location: California
Summary: In December 2005 and January 2006, Northern California sustained substantial precipitation and flooding throughout the region. One of the hardest hit areas were the Sonoma and Napa valleys. As a result of flooding along Mill and Ashbury Creeks the primary water supply diversions for the State Development Center were rendered completely inoperable. Severe bank erosion upstream filled the diversions with sediment. Cardno ENTRIX provided engineering and environmental services for the emergency repairs. Cardno ENTRIX performed a site reconnaissance, topographic survey and geomorphic assessments to evaluate the damage and identify potential restoration alternatives. Cardno ENTRIX developed conceptual drawings, construction documents, and environmental permits. These repairs encompassed the removal of sediment and bank stabilization for approximately 600 linear feet of Mill Creek. Cardno ENTRIX mobilized appropriate personnel in short order to assist the State and SDC on this fast-paced project. Our personnel completed construction documents and obtained permits in four months, enabling the SDC to rebuild the diversion structures prior to the rainy season.
