Grey to Green Ecosystem Services Quantification
Client: Bureau of Environmental Services City of Portland
Location: Portland, OR
Summary: Cardno ENTRIX worked closely with a panel comprised of government, non-profit, and academic experts to measure the community livability, energy, and health benefits of the City of Portland's Grey to Green Stormwater Management Program. The Grey to Green program includes urban green infrastructure Best Management Practices (BMPs) such as ecoroofs, green streets, tree planting, invasive removal, land purchases, and natural plantings. The expert panel results will complement the work previously completed by the City quantifying the habitat, water quality, and hydrological benefits of the Grey to Green BMPs.
Cardno ENTRIX provided technical support and guidance to the benefits quantification process, which included identifying metrics for measuring different benefits, collecting data and relevant literature, developing methods to estimate the benefits, and assigning a certainty level to the estimated benefits. With input from the expert panel, Cardno ENTRIX compiled a final report documenting sources, methodology, and benefit findings.
