National Assessment of Costs-Benefits of Once Through Cooling for the Electric Power Research Institute

Summary: Cardno ENTRIX is part of a team contracted by the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) to quantify the environmental impacts (adverse and beneficial) of retrofitting all large power plants to once through cooling. Cardno ENTRIX is completing the economic valuation of a variety of potential impacts such as: changes to: commercial and recreational fisheries, air quality, public safety, land use, noise levels, and viewshed quality. These impacts were assessed for power plants operating on a variety of water body types and under a range of geographic and socioeconomic conditions. This project is being completed for submittal to the USEPA during their development of a revised ?Phase II Rule? to address Section 316(b) of the Clean Water Act.
