National Quantification of the Environmental and Social Impacts of Closed-Cycle Cooling

Client: Electric Power Research Institute

Summary: Cardno ENTRIX is part of a team contracted by the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) to quantify the impacts (adverse and beneficial) on a national basis of environmental changes associated with IM&E technologies. Cardno ENTRIX completed the economic valuation of impacts including: fish mortality, air quality, public safety, land use, noise, viewshed, and recreation. These impacts were assessed for 27 power nuclear and fossil facilities across the country operating on a variety of water body types and under a range of geographic and socioeconomic conditions. The project will be submitted to the USEPA during their development of a revised Phase II Rule to address Section 316(b) of the Clean Water Act.
