Cardno ENTRIX Plays Prominent Role in Numeric Nutrient Criteria Development in Florida

In an unusual and highly-charged process, the US EPA has just promulgated numeric nutrient criteria (NNC) for the State of Florida. These criteria have the potential to dramatically affect the technology, logistics and cost of compliance and water resource management throughout the state for both public and private entities. Cardno ENTRIX has participated in nutrient criteria development efforts for nearly a decade in Florida, including the collection of more than 500,000 water quality and ecological data points in a state-funded Dissolved Oxygen-Nutrient Study, and membership on the Technical Advisory Committee to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. ENTRIX Wins NGWA's Outstanding Project Award

The National Ground Water Association (NGWA) is honoring ENTRIX with its Outstanding Project Award in Ground Water Supply, given to the project demonstrating outstanding science, engineering, and contractor innovation. ENTRIX won for its work with the City of Marco Island, Florida and its novel resolution to the area's limited freshwater supply needed to meet potable water demands. The project involved a highly sophisticated aquifer storage and recovery (ASR) system notably the first of its kind to efficiently store partially treated surface water in a highly brackish aquifer while obtaining efficient recovery. In addition to designing a cutting edge solution, the ENTRIX team spent years navigating and successfully surmounting stringent permitting hurdles. ENTRIX Makes Key Hires In Seattle Office

Kim Levesque joined ENTRIX in September and is a Senior Consultant/ Biologist with more than thirty years of experience in fisheries and natural resource management. She has served as a lead biologist on a range of fisheries projects including habitat restoration, water quality monitoring and habitat improvement projects, fish survival, population and hatchery studies. She also has extensive hydroelectric project experience, spearheading both the environmental studies and document preparation. Over the course of her career, she has lead complex teams and worked closely with federal, state and local agencies, as well as diverse stakeholders and special interest groups. Following a distinguished career of public service to the state of Florida, Rick Cantrell now brings his 38 years of environmental and regulatory knowledge to our ENTRIX Tallahassee office. During his tenure with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, Rick has held the positions of; District Biologist, District Permitting supervisor, Administrator of the Wetland Delineation Section, Director of the DEP South District office and Deputy Director of the Division of Water Resources Management. He was instrumental in the development of the present Florida wetland delineation methodology and in the effort that led to the legislative ratification of that methodology. Rick also led the efforts that produced the Florida Wetlands Delineation Manual and the Florida Wetland Plants Identification Manual. Most recently Rick's efforts have been directed towards improving and streamlining the regulatory program for mining in Florida including placing a greater emphasis on the protection and restoration of streams.
