On January 24, 2011, The Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR), Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA) and Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan announced the settlement of a natural resource damages case that will result in ecosystem restoration projects to preserve waterways and enhance wildlife habitat on and near the former Indian Refinery south of Lawrenceville, Illinois. The $1.7 million dollar settlement will protect waterways, expand public land and preserve wildlife habitat on 2300 acres of land. The U.S. Senate approved major Indian water settlements worth more than $1 billion on November 19, 2010. The Crow Tribe of Montana received $461 million and the White Mountain Apache Tribe of Arizona received $292 million.
