Cardno ENTRIX Donates to the Texas Parks & Wildlife Employee Relief Fund

Cardno ENTRIX was glad to extend a helping hand toward the Texas Parks & Wildlife Employee Relief Fund. The firm donated funds that went to Texas Parks & Wildlife employees directly impacted bythe Bastrop Complex Fire that took place in September of 2011. The fires in Texas have greatly impacted the way of life for so many individuals and the land itself where the incredible fires have been burning for some time now. The Bastrop Fire burned nearly 2,000 homes and 40,000 acres. Fire departments across the state have responded to 28,740 fires since Nov. 15, 2010. The majority of the state is under a very severe burn ban due to amount of susceptible dry land and the ongoing drought. With over 30 years of experience in advanced natural resource analysis, Ken is globally recognized as a water quality expert and is known for his insights and innovative approaches to decision-making in this complex field. Ken’s professional passion lies in the development, evaluation and application of surface water models to explain the behavior of aquatic systems and inform decision making, particularly in the face of variability and uncertainty. Much of his work makes use of Bayesian statistical analysis to combine and evaluate information from disparate sources. His recent modeling projects involve Bayesian networks to capture complex linkages among variables and to express uncertainties in probabilistic terms. Cardno ENTRIX Makes Big Splash at 32nd Annual SETAC Meeting

The Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC) North America 32nd Annual meeting is quickly approaching and Cardno ENTRIX is making a big splash at this year’s event. The event will be held from November 13-17th at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston, Massachusetts. SETAC is a non-profit professional society that is dedicated to the study of the environment, natural resources regulation, education, research and development, and manufacturing and distribution. Cardno ENTRIX’s support of outdoor classroom is featured in the Tampa Tribune

The November 06, 2011 edition of the Tampa Tribune in Tampa, Florida covered a story of the unique way Countryside Montessori Charter School students are learning from nature. The visionary school has implemented an outdoor classroom to teach children the important of the environment and nature in our ever-changing world. Cardno ENTRIX donated 250 plants and trees to the project to help offset the costs to the school and give children a new and innovative way to learn about the environment and its surroundings. Dr. Thomas and Dr. John present abstracts at CERF 2011 conference

The 2011 Coastal and Estuarine Research Foundation (CERF) conference, being hosted Nov 6-10, at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach Florida, focuses on how human societies are an integral element of ecosystems and how socties and ecosystems integrate but have diverse futures. The conference will emphasize new scientific findings and perception of how human society and ecosystems converage. Dr. Cassondra Thomas will present “Restoration of nutrient-enriched Everglades through phosphorus load reduction and fire” which targets the effects of fire and phosphorus load reduction in a phosphorus enriched area of the Everglades. The project assessed if the impacted wetland could recover to a more oligotrophic state with historical plant species with the application of fire and a reduction in phosphorus loading. Her studies also expanded the knowledge of fire ecology in the Everglades and wetlands while also advancing prior knowledge regarding the design and analysis of large-scale ecosystem experiments. Phil is a leader in quantitative risk assessment and environmental monitoring, bringing over 22 years of experience to the Cardno ENRTIX team. He will provide natural resource consulting focused on the New York, New Jersey markets within the Northeast regions of the United States. Phil’s duties will include project management, support, business development to ecotox, NRDA CERLA related projects, and quantitative support to projects across the nation but will mainly try and capture the Northeastern United States market. We are pleased to announce the addition of Steve Huntley to Cardno ENTRIX. Steve brings with him over 20 years of experience in environmental consulting for the regulated community with primary expertise in the areas of toxicology, risk assessment, natural resource damage assessment (NRDA), and environmental chemistry/forensics. Of particular interest to Steve throughout his consulting career is the evaluation of the sources, behavior, and toxicology of dioxins/furans and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) which has accounted for a significant amount of his project experience. His technical skills have been applied to several key market sectors including Oil and Gas, Pulp and Paper, and Chemical Manufacturing.
