Wetland Assessment/Functional Valuation

Wetlands are ecologically important and rigorously protected habitats because they support hundreds of species and also act as natural water filters to remove pollutants from the environment. Cardno ENTRIX has extensive experience in conducting wetland delineations throughout the U.S.  Our professionals routinely provide compliance with the Clean Water Act using the Corps of Engineers Wetland Delineation Manual with Arid West and Western Mountains, Valleys, and Coast regional supplements as well as state and local guidelines—like the Wetland Assessment Procedure (WAP) used in the Tampa Bay, Florida area.

Cardno ENTRIX has years of experience collecting information on vegetation, hydrology, soils, and other pertinent variables to accurately characterize the current biological functions and values of wetlands. Standard functions assessed include groundwater recharge/discharge, flood flow alteration, fish and shellfish habitat, sediment/toxicant retention, nutrient removal, production export, sediment/shoreline stabilization, and wildlife habitat.  These activities are essential to the permitting of client projects for an array of activities such as restoration, land development, linear projects, mining and energy, and water infrastructure projects.

In addition to proven land-based delineation methodology, Cardno ENTRIX uses state-of-the-art techniques such as GPS and aerial photography to map the extent of wetlands and waters of the U.S.  A proposed project is then overlaid on the resultant wetland map to determine the potential for and extent of impacts. This allows clients to iteratively modify projects to minimize/avoid impacts, without additional surveys, and increases the likelihood of project approval and permitting.
