Native American Economic Development
Assisting Native American Tribes with effective economic development requires not only business and economic expertise, but also understanding and respect for Tribal cultures, goals and traditions. Cardno ENTRIX economists have completed hundreds of economic development studies for more than 60 Tribes. Additionally, our economists have worked with over a dozen Reservations and Pueblos to evaluate, develop and quantify their water rights.
Collectively, the firm brings a unique combination of experiences to our economic development work, from economic and financial feasibility, cultural analysis, sociological assessment, and deep scientific expertise across a range of environmental and natural resource challenges. Our studies have included the assessments of the benefits and costs of many service and goods-producing businesses, the examination of job creation potential of different enterprises, the analysis of various agricultural crop and livestock options for Tribal land, as well as the evaluation and options for using water rights. Cardno ENTRIX studies and recommendations have been integrated into numerous Tribal plans and resource utilization strategies.
Additionally, our multidisciplinary team provides essential National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) studies required to perform fee-to-trust conveyance—such as environmental site assessments cultural resource and State Historic Preservation Offices (SHPO) documents, Endangered Species Act (ESA) consultations, and Army Corps of Engineers (ACOE) section 404 permitting—all critical to the fee-to-trust process.
