Decision Analysis and Risk Management

Making environmental and natural resource decisions can be extremely difficult because of conflicting trade-offs among economic, regulatory, and environmental benefits and risks.  Cardno ENTRIX uses a number of economic and business tools to enhance our clients’ decision making regarding these complex issues.

Cardno ENTRIX leverages Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA) to help clients facing various alternatives—with differing risks and benefits—come to stronger decisions regarding their environmental and natural resource assets.  Our environmentally-focused MCDA framework offers clients a systematic, transparent process for evaluating and choosing management strategies using both quantitative and subjective criteria including unique client preferences or principles.  Cardno ENTRIX has successfully used MCDA for clients by facilitating stakeholder meetings to develop a shared understanding of project complexities; prioritizing future capital investments; or evaluating risk and uncertainty using probabilistic methods.

Cardno ENTRIX is also recognized for our work integrating natural resource liability management and asset management into the risk-based (remedial) process and regulatory framework. In fact, our Net Environmental and Community Benefits Analysis (NECBA) approach has been embraced by many regulatory agencies on a case-by-case basis at sites managed by Cardno ENTRIX teams.  NECBA provides a quantitative decision model that takes into account environmental, social and economic impacts.  It has been used to develop green remediation strategies that result in sustainable development, not only ensuring environmental and human health protection but also promoting and maximizing ecologically viable economic development.
